Saturday Matinée, Florida in the 50's

$500.00

Sarasota's Opera House has quite a wonderful history.  The building was constructed in 1926 during the massive Florida building boom.  It opened as the Edwards Theatre and later was renamed the Florida Theatre.  In the 1950's the Florida Theatre premiered the movie "The Greatest Show on Earth" that was filmed in Sarasota and hosted a live performance of Elvis in 1956.  In 1973 the theater closed.  The building continued to house some tenants including Ringling's Clown College.  In the 1980's the building underwent extensive restoration and rehabilitation to open as the Sarasota Opera House.
